Australia Announces Fully-Funded Scholarships for Pakistani Students

The Australia Awards program continues to support Pakistan through education-focused development initiatives, offering fully-funded scholarships for master’s level studies in Australia.

Australia’s international development assistance in Pakistan aims to promote a peaceful, stable, and prosperous future for both Pakistan and the wider region. The program focuses on long-term capacity building, leadership development, and strong people-to-people links between the two countries.

Program Objectives and Focus

The Australia Awards program helps partner countries achieve development goals through higher education, knowledge exchange, and professional networks. It prepares emerging leaders with skills, experience, and international exposure to address key development challenges.

Selection panels assess applicants based on academic strength, professional background, leadership potential, and the ability to contribute to development outcomes in Pakistan. The program strongly encourages applications from women, people with disabilities, and other marginalised groups.

Priority Fields of Study for Pakistan

The governments of Australia and Pakistan jointly identify priority study areas and review them regularly. Current focus areas for Pakistan include climate change, empowerment of women and girls, agriculture and water security, infrastructure, and inclusive economic development.

Detailed guidance on priority disciplines is available through Australia Awards Pakistan resources.

Level of Study and Intake Year

Australia Awards scholarships for Pakistan are available for master’s level programs only, with studies scheduled to commence in Australia in 2027. All degrees must be completed at recognised Australian tertiary institutions.

Applicants who already hold an equivalent qualification are not eligible under the program.

Scholarship Benefits

Australia Awards scholarships cover the full duration required to complete the approved academic program. Benefits include return airfare, a one-time establishment allowance upon arrival, full tuition fees, and a contribution toward living expenses.

Recipients also receive overseas student health cover, an introductory academic program, supplementary academic support, and fieldwork allowances for research or coursework programs with compulsory fieldwork components.

Applicants must meet all general requirements listed in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook. Pakistan-specific conditions also apply.

Candidates must be Pakistani citizens residing in Pakistan and applying from within the country. Applicants must not hold Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or apply for permanent migration.

Applicants must have completed 16 years of education and possess at least five years of relevant work experience in Pakistan. The age limit is 45 years at the time of application.

Each applicant must submit a Development Impact and Linkages Plan outlining clear goals to contribute to Pakistan’s development. Successful candidates must return to Pakistan for a minimum of two years after completing their studies.

People with disabilities may apply with an IELTS score of 6.0, provided no band is below 5.0. Selected candidates must later meet the required English score before commencement.

Required Supporting Documents

Mandatory documents include tertiary degree certificates and academic transcripts, a detailed CV, valid English language test results, academic and employment referee reports, a completed Development Impact and Linkages Plan, and a no-objection certificate for public sector employees.

Selection Process

Authorities will shortlist applications after eligibility checks. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection process includes interviews and evaluation based on academic ability, leadership qualities, work experience, and potential contribution to Pakistan’s development.

Successful candidates will be informed in late 2026. Travel approval will depend on requirements set by Australian federal and state authorities.

Preparatory Training and Orientation

Selected scholars must attend course counselling, pre-departure briefings, and their university’s Introductory Academic Program. Additional preparatory training may be required upon arrival in Australia.
