Govt Edges Closer to End Unit-to-Unit Adjustment for Solar Consumers

The federal government has taken a final decision to amend the net metering policy, with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) scheduling a public hearing on February 6 to review objections submitted by consumers and stakeholders.

According to officials, NEPRA had issued a draft of the proposed amendments on December 16 and invited objections within 30 days. The authority said a final decision on the revised policy will be taken after the public hearing, reported a news daily.

Under the proposed net billing framework, the price of exported electricity units is expected to be fixed at Rs. 11 per unit. In addition, the existing unit-to-unit adjustment facility for solar consumers will be discontinued.

Officials said that if the amendments are approved, consumers will receive separate bills for electricity consumed at the national tariff and for exported units. This would mark a significant shift from the current net metering billing system used by solar consumers.

The proposed changes have been introduced as part of the government’s broader effort to reduce costs in the energy sector and make the tariff system more effective and sustainable.

However, the draft amendments have raised concerns among solar users and industry stakeholders, who argue that the changes could affect the financial viability of rooftop solar installations.

NEPRA said all objections submitted by stakeholders will be examined during the public hearing before any final notification is issued.

  • I think this is the only country on the world which punishes people for trying to survive through the governments own incompetence and corruption. It’s like they are telling us, ” we will destroy you, and tou are going to to like it!”

  • And just like that. We as a country are moving towards bangladesh.

The govt promised for 40 years that they’ll create Dams to provide affordable electricity. It failed. Then solar brought everyone free electricity from the sun.

More they’ll reduce the price of solar units to 11
But allow power companies to do as They please.

This country is moving towards total loss.

    • no one is stopping you from generating and consuming your own free electricity.
The government will just stop providing you the facility of an unlimited free storage battery in the form of unit to unit adjustment.

  • cheap clean electricity from morning til evening . But government wants to keep IPPs and pay them in dollars . Most people are installing 5 to 15kw batteries so demand for grid will never increase

  • Why No cancellation on IPP agreement
Why no reduction in line losses
Why no audit of failed hydropower projects
Why no cancellation of free electricity units facility
Why not trying to supply electricity to area of country where it’s still not given
Why not recovering money from public office holders who made kick backs on IPP agreements

The answer to above is nothing

    Only squeeze Solar users

  • The highest production cost of electricity, no explanation of poor government effeciency.

    Nonsense only

  • Get ready to take another load of the government expenses on the luxurious lifestyles they have

  • The sodium battery is around the corner, once it arrives -mid of this year- average house hold will easily be able to install 15kv+ batteries.
Once this happen then the regulatory authority, Wapda and/or their policy makers, shove their grid electricity in their posterior, we will not need it.

  • Just another way to appease the elite. The solar system users are also like small IPPs providing govt with surplus electricity than at much much cheaper rates than the big fishes looting the govt with much expensive rates. How can govt take my electricity unit at Rs 10 and sell it to others at Rs 60-70. Who is presenting ordinary citizen / solar consumer in NEPRA meeting. Where is that open hearing being held. Can some knowledgeable person file a case in courts to stop this injustice. Atleast this NEPRA (so called) open hearing be telecasted live to see the system fairness. Its just to coverup the plan to appease the elite industrialst groups.

  • Every one wants to peace from this hug tention of electricity, that’s why peoples installed solar system and kind information for govt peoples must installs batteries but not green meter, for God sake think about that and make plan better for govt and for peoples

  • Will it effect only the new consumers or the old one as well? Old consumers had a deal.. For unit to unit with peak hours to be paid

  • This Government is unfriendly and anti common man. It only looks after its interest and those who own the IPPs. It has no right to change the policy when people are facing hardship due to wrong policies of government.

  • The government is bound to give relief to
Solar consumers and should not curtail
consumers benefit very bad decision by govt

  • A move which will take back Pakistan to a large scale energy crises in order to feed the already fat bellys of IPPs, who are none other than the people actively involved in the politics of Pakistan. May be it will bring about the downfall of Discos.

  • The govt should have encouraged solar systems and must gave extra electricity to industries at lower / cheap rates to revive and able them to compete international competitors to bring dollars in country, also reduce reliance on import to save local industry.

  • How can an authority who brought forward proposals be the examining body also. Examining should always be done by a third party and should give the pubic relief.

  • A corrupt and inefficient government + a sleeping nation = The current situation

I have not seen any comments from users highlighting the (mis)use of millions of free units worth billions of rupees by Power sector employees and others. I wish those present at the public hearing by NEPRA this issue too is raised. Mind this is a very, very serious matter.

  • kuch b nahi ha gov k pass awam ko deny ky siwaye awam ki leny ky..na bijli sasti na gas ha aur na hi pani ha..koi policy nahi ha esy beekar kisam ky ploicy maker baithy hain jin ko andaza hi nahi ha k loog kesy life guzar rahy hain
