The Federal Ministry of Education has approved the UK-based City & Guilds education board to operate in Pakistan, following authorization from the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC). The approval allows City & Guilds to offer internationally recognized academic and vocational qualifications in the country.
Under this approval, GEMS Pathway has been launched to provide certifications equivalent to Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC), along with vocational and skills-based qualifications. These certifications will be recognized globally.
The initiative was formally introduced at a Global Skills Summit titled “Shaping Future Pakistan”, held in Karachi. The event was attended by Minister of State for Education Wajiha Qamar, NAVTTC Chairperson Ghulmina Bilal, and IBCC Executive Director Ghulam Ali Mollah.
Speaking at the event, Wajiha Qamar said City & Guilds is a well-established international education body and welcomed its entry into Pakistan’s education sector. IBCC Executive Director Ghulam Ali Mollah confirmed that City & Guilds is now fully authorized to operate in Pakistan under IBCC regulations.
City & Guilds will offer Skill Certificates equivalent to Intermediate and A-Level qualifications, in addition to vocational certifications. The board already operates in Pakistan’s vocational sector and is now expanding into general education through this approval.
