Punjab Police Constable Reportedly Opens Unprovoked SMG Fire to Allegedly Murder 20-Year-Old in Talagang

A Punjab Police constable has reportedly been booked under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code after a 20-year-old man was allegedly shot dead in Talagang in what the victim’s family claims was an unprovoked firing incident, according to the FIR filed by the deceased’s father.

The complainant stated that on the night of February 5, his son Abdullah along with Talha, left home at around 11:00 pm to purchase medicine for his mother.

Later, at around 12:20 am, Abdullah’s father said he was returning from his cousin’s house when he came upon the incident.

According to the FIR, as Abdullah’s car crossed the area near Malik Cash and Carry, a police official travelling in a vehicle behind them allegedly opened fire on the youths.

Abdullah’s father said he was present at the spot and witnessed the shooting.

The FIR names the alleged shooter as Constable M. Saqib, identified as a Punjab Police official posted in Talagang, and alleges that he used an SMG to fire at the vehicle.

As a result of the firing, Abdullah, aged 20, sustained bullet injuries.

The complainant stated that the injured was first taken to City Hospital and later shifted towards THQ, however Abdullah died before reaching THQ, according to the FIR.

Police have reportedly registered the case under Section 302 (murder), with Constable M. Saqib nominated as the primary accused.

Further investigation is expected to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting, including the events immediately before the firing, the officer’s claimed justification, and any available eyewitness or CCTV evidence from the area.
