Sindh Bans Photography in Government Girls’ Colleges Over Misuse on Social Media

The Sindh College Education Department has announced a province-wide ban on photography inside government girls’ colleges, warning that violations could invite disciplinary and even legal action.

According to an official notification, principals of all government girls’ colleges have been formally notified and instructed to ensure strict implementation of the directive.

The decision stems from an advisory issued by the Special Secretary for Colleges, after which the Regional Director of College Education Karachi circulated official letters to colleges across the city.

The department stated that photographs of female students were being taken without permission and later shared on social media platforms, which it termed a serious breach of social and religious norms, as well as existing laws. Authorities added that they have received multiple complaints regarding the unauthorized capture and circulation of such images.

Taking strong notice of the matter, the Special Secretary highlighted incidents involving covert photography of female teachers and students, followed by the distribution of these images on Facebook, WhatsApp, and other digital platforms. In response, the department decided to enforce a complete ban on photography within college premises.

In a separate letter, College Education Regional Director Professor Qazi Arshad warned that any failure to comply with the ban would lead to disciplinary action against the concerned principals and staff members.

Earlier, the Punjab government had also imposed restrictions on mobile phone usage by teachers and students in schools, directing district education officers to strictly enforce the ban in both public and private institutions.
