PM Takes Notice of NEPRA’s New Solar Regulations, Orders Protection of Existing Consumers

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate notice of the new solar regulations issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and instructed the Power Division to file a review petition.

The Prime Minister directed that the petition should focus on protecting the contracts of existing solar users to ensure their rights are fully safeguarded.

He emphasized that the burden of 466,000 solar users should not fall on the more than 37.6 million consumers who rely solely on the national grid.

In this regard, the Power Division has been tasked with formulating a comprehensive action plan.

The instructions came during a high-level special meeting held today in Islamabad, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review NEPRA’s new regulations.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Sardar Owais Khan Laghari, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kiani, Privatization Advisor Muhammad Ali, and other senior officials.

  • And at the same time. Non solar users were just burdened by fixed charges to subsidise industrial sector.

  • Its un fair announcement, it should be order instead appeal. If anyone invest abd getting benefit , why they have objection. Basically they trying to hide line losses due to theft by their employees. P.M should take serious action and order in the best interest of the public.

  • All power distribution companies will be privatize at the earliest. The solar panels safe the fossil fuels cost each year to generate power.Goverment has zero investment in rooftop solar panels and get electric without any huge investment.
