Punjab Police Introduces New Reform Plan

The Punjab Police has launched a major reform initiative, which officials say will begin a new era of accountability and public service.

The special project, initiated under the direction of the Punjab chief minister, aims to transform police culture, improve officer conduct, and rebuild public trust.

Under the new directives, citizens visiting police stations, offices, and checkpoints will be addressed respectfully as “sir” and “madam.” Officials say clear rules and regulations have been established to ensure courteous behavior becomes standard practice.

Strict action will be taken against officers and staff who misbehave with the public or fail to properly listen to complaints.

Authorities stated that misconduct, corruption, misuse of authority, and immoral conduct will not be tolerated. The accountability system is being restructured to ensure officers are answerable for their actions. Excessive use of authority and unethical behavior will result in disciplinary action.

As part of a major technological upgrade, the entire police force will be equipped with cameras within the next two months. All operations, including raids, will be recorded to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of power.

Cameras installed at police stations will also become fully operational. Live monitoring will be conducted directly from the Central Police Office, allowing senior officials to oversee activities in real time.

To further empower citizens, panic buttons will be installed outside police stations. These will allow individuals to immediately register complaints related to police misconduct.

Officials also announced a comprehensive strategy to end delays in registering cases and conducting investigations, a longstanding public complaint.

In a significant move, Punjab Inspector General Abdul Karim has personally begun contacting petitioners and applicants by phone. The goal of this direct engagement is to ensure complaints are addressed promptly and that citizens feel heard at the highest level.

Officials say the restructuring of the accountability framework, combined with digital monitoring and citizen-focused reforms, is designed to improve the delivery of justice and restore public confidence in the police force.

According to police leadership, the initiative marks the beginning of a transformative phase in law enforcement across the province.
