PMDC Issues Notices to 12 Medical and Dental Colleges

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued show-cause notices to 12 medical and dental institutions for charging annual fees above the approved cap of Rs. 1.8 million, PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj said during a media briefing.

Addressing reporters, Dr. Taj said the council is monitoring colleges to ensure compliance with its fee regulations. He added that the PMDC is also reviewing 40 additional cases after related petitions were dismissed by courts and referred back to the council.

He said the council recently reached an understanding with the Pakistan Association of Medical Institutions (PAMI), under which institutions agreed to withdraw litigation and provide relief to affected students. A follow-up meeting is scheduled later this month.

Dr. Taj said institutions seeking to raise fees up to Rs. 2.5 million must submit detailed financial justifications to the PMDC. The council will review such requests through a formal evaluation process before granting any approval.

He warned that colleges charging fees beyond the approved cap without prior authorization will have to compensate students. Excess amounts, he said, will either be refunded or adjusted in the following academic year.

The PMDC has also advised students and parents not to pay fees exceeding the prescribed limit.
