The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation on Monday unveiled a citywide infrastructure rehabilitation plan focused on upgrading roads and strengthening municipal services.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab chaired a meeting of the KMC Engineering Department where officials finalized policy directions and timelines to accelerate development work. According to a statement issued after the session, the corporation will undertake large-scale rehabilitation of roads across all districts.
In addition to roads under KMC’s administrative control, the authority has decided to repair 183 more roads to enhance connectivity and ease traffic movement. Officials said work will prioritize major and heavily used arteries while ensuring alternative routes remain open to minimize disruption for commuters.
The mayor directed departments to complete all formalities on priority and issue tenders before Eid so construction can begin without delay. He instructed relevant wings to maintain consistent progress in line with the approved scope of work.
As part of the plan, Jahangir Road will shift to a solar-powered street lighting system. Municipal Commissioner Samira Hussain briefed participants on the criteria used to select roads in different districts.
During the meeting, the mayor also ordered improvements in streetlight management alongside road repairs to ensure safer and better illuminated roads throughout the city.
