In case you missed it, Nothing has been promoting its upcoming Phone 4a series like it’s launching a late-night romance starter kit instead of a smartphone. The company casually posted a picture of a condom with the caption “coming soon,” which instantly made the internet raise its eyebrows and clutch its pearls. No phone. No specs. Just protection. Subtle.
Then, because apparently that wasn’t questionable enough, Nothing followed up with a pair of blue and pink pills labeled “Feel good.” No explanation. No product mentioned. Just vibes strong enough to make people question whether they were witnessing a phone launch or a pharmaceutical awakening.
Naturally, the internet lost its mind trying to decode the meaning, while Nothing stood in the corner saying absolutely nothing. Now, the mystery finally has a date, with the company confirming its launch event for March 5, just one day after Apple’s March 4 event.
Nothing co-founder and CEO Carl Pei took to X and digitally spray-painted Apple’s event invite with the words “Nothing” and “5 March.” Instead of designing a traditional invite with product details, the company decided to borrow Apple’s spotlight and scribble its own date on top.
Apple’s March 4 event is expected to introduce the iPhone 17e, rumored to start at $599 as a more affordable entry into the Apple ecosystem. Meanwhile, leaks suggest the Nothing Phone 4a could land at around $475, with the Phone 4a Pro near $540.
The two devices do not directly compete and target different audiences, even in markets like India. That has stopped Nothing from positioning itself directly behind Apple’s announcement, like a sequel nobody saw coming but everyone is now curious about.
According to leaker Yogesh Brar, the Phone 4a series may feature an updated camera setup and a new version of Nothing’s glyph interface. At the same time, he advises that Nothing Phone 3a users probably do not need to rush for an upgrade.
Previous leaks point to Snapdragon 7s processors, up to 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, along with a modest battery increase. The Phone 4a Pro may also include an IP65 rating and possibly eSIM support.
Nothing has not confirmed these specifications yet. For now, the most concrete details are the date and the fact that condoms and pills were apparently part of the marketing strategy.
If nothing else, March 5 should finally answer the question everyone has been asking: what exactly was that teaser about?
