Pakistan Baitul Mal will provide 60 scholarships annually to deserving students in the Department of Sociology at the University of Peshawar under a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Under the agreement, Pakistan Baitul Mal will allocate approximately Rs. 3.6 million each year to fund 60 scholarships for financially deserving and needy students in the Sociology Department.
The scholarships will be awarded based on financial need and merit, with the goal of ensuring that talented students are not denied higher education due to economic constraints.
Dr. Syed Owas, Chairman of the Department of Sociology, and Sheraz, Director Finance of Pakistan Baitul Mal, have been nominated as focal persons to oversee the implementation of the agreement and ensure transparent execution of the scholarship program.
Professor Dr. Anwar Alam, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Dr. Noor Sanauddin, Associate Professor, were also present at the signing ceremony, along with faculty members and administrative officials.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the role of Pakistan Baitul Mal in providing financial assistance to deserving students across the country. He directed the focal persons to develop clear terms of reference and transparent procedures for reviewing scholarship applications to ensure proper use of funds.
The Vice Chancellor also proposed the formation of a special committee comprising representatives from the Department of Sociology, Pakistan Baitul Mal, and the university administration to manage the scholarship program effectively.
Representatives of Pakistan Baitul Mal expressed satisfaction with the formalization of the partnership, noting that it strengthens decades of informal collaboration between the two institutions.
