Food safety authorities have arrested a well coordinated network accused of producing and supplying chemically adulterated milk in Rawalpindi and Islamabad during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Punjab Food Authority Rawalpindi Zone and the Islamabad Food Authority conducted a joint raid in Islamabad after receiving confidential information about the operation. During the action, officials recovered 13,000 liters of a hazardous chemical solution that suspects allegedly used to manufacture counterfeit milk.
Officials said the seized mixture could have produced up to 50,000 liters of adulterated milk for sale in the twin cities.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority Rawalpindi Zone, the team carried out the large scale raid at a house near Lehtrar Road based on a tip. Authorities seized 480 kilograms of banaspati ghee, 50 kilograms of dry powder, and machinery used to prepare the fake milk. Investigators found that the group used chemical agents and hydrogenated vegetable fat in the production process.
Officials destroyed the recovered chemical mixture at the site to ensure it did not enter the market. Authorities confirmed that the suspects planned to distribute the entire quantity across Rawalpindi and Islamabad during Ramadan, when milk and yogurt consumption typically rises.
