Rare and Exotic Monkeys Seen for Sale in Pakistan Despite Ban

The illegal online trade of rare and exotic wildlife appears to be continuing across Pakistan, despite restrictions, with marmoset monkeys now being openly marketed on social media.

Over the past few days, multiple videos circulating online show sellers displaying the small-sized monkeys and offering them to buyers. Sources say marmosets are native to the forests of Brazil and other parts of South America, and are allegedly being trafficked into Pakistan through smuggling routes.

According to information shared by sources, some of these animals have also been brought into the country through Afghanistan, highlighting the role of cross-border routes in the illegal wildlife supply chain.

What has raised further concern is that sellers on social platforms are reportedly promising nationwide delivery, claiming the animals can be supplied to customers in major cities across Pakistan.

Wildlife experts warn that trading in protected and rare species is a violation of national wildlife and conservation laws. They have called on concerned authorities to crack down on sellers, disrupt smuggling networks, and take strict action to curb the growing online market for exotic animals.
