2026 has only just begun, but vivo has already dropped one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, flagship-grade phone of the year in the form of iQOO 15R. Not only does this phone have a flagship-grade chipset, but it also has a gigantic battery and a dedicated cooling system.
But the best part is, it starts below $500.
Design and Display
The iQOO 15R features a 6.59″ AMOLED panel with tiny bezels and flat sides protected by Schott Xensation Alpha glass. This display has a resolution of 1260 x 2750 pixels, a 144Hz refresh rate, support for 1B colors, and an impressive 5000 nits peak brightness, which should ensure easy sunlight viewing. It also features 4320Hz PWM dimming for flicker-free viewing.
The phone is available in two different color options, each of which offers a different back panel material. The Dark Knight variant has a fiberglass back, while the Triumph Silver has a regular glass back.
It also has a fancy ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is usually superior to optical sensors in terms of consistency and quick unlocks. There is IP69-rated water and dust proofing and an IR blaster to control home appliances directly from your phone.
Internals and Software
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 may be a class lower than the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but it is still a powerful flagship-grade chipset nonetheless, with only minor downgrades for cheaper phones. This is paired with a 6.5K IceCore VC Cooling System to sustain 144 FPS in PUBG and Cod Mobile.
There are 8GB/12GB RAM options to choose from, and storage variants are available between 256GB/512GB. The software is based on Android 16 with Origin OS 6 on top, with all sorts of AI features. Vivo promises 4 years of OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches.
Cameras
The camera array on the back is rather simple, with only a duo of lenses: a 50MP main sensor based on Sony’s LYT-700 and an 8MP ultrawide unit. Video recording goes up to 4K 60 FPS and 1080p 240 fps.
The selfie camera is a 32MP shooter that can also do 4K video recording and 1080p.
Battery and Pricing
There is a massive 7,600 mAh battery onboard that is paired with 100W wired charging for quick top-ups. vivo claims that this allows the battery to charge up from 1% to 50% in 33 minutes and to 100% in 63 minutes with the charger that comes in the box (take that, Samsung and Apple). There is also bypass charging from gaming and reverse charging to use the phone as a power bank.
The phone is only available in India right now, and the starting price there is $495 for the 8GB/256GB variant. The highest-end variant, with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, will go for $580.
