Five Children Die After Drinking Water from Empty Pesticide Bottle

Five children have died in Sindh’s Ghotki district after reportedly drinking water from an empty pesticide bottle, highlighting the dangers of unsafe disposal of agricultural chemicals in rural areas.

The incident occurred in the village of Arif Chajjar in the rural town of Sarhad, where the children found an empty pesticide bottle and used it to drink water while returning home from school.

According to reports, Waqar Ahmed, 10, and Ayaz Ahmed, 9, died on the first day after falling ill. Two more children, seven-year-old Allaudin and five-year-old Waseem, passed away on Tuesday. Ayaz, Allaudin, and Waseem were brothers.

The fifth victim, four-year-old Muhammad Khan, died on Thursday while receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Relatives of the victims said the families believe pesticide residue in the bottle caused the deaths. They also complained that health authorities have not yet issued an official statement about the incident.

Residents expressed concern over the lack of regulations and awareness regarding the safe disposal of pesticide containers, warning that such negligence continues to pose serious health risks to communities in rural areas.
