The UAE has confirmed that the person who died following the missile incident in Abu Dhabi was of Asian nationality, according to a statement from the Emirati Ministry of Defense.
In its statement, the ministry said the UAE was targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles, adding that air defense systems successfully intercepted a number of them.
However, it said shrapnel from the interceptions fell into a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing material damage and resulting in one death.
The ministry strongly condemned the incident, stressing that the UAE rejects the targeting of civilian objects, facilities, and national institutions. It described the attack as a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian safety and undermines regional stability.
The statement also said the strike amounted to a serious violation of national sovereignty and international law, and added that the UAE reserves the full right to respond to the escalation and take all necessary measures to protect its territory. The ministry said it remains ready to deal with any threats as the situation continues to unfold.
