Aleem Dar Resigns from PCB Selection Committee After T20 World Cup Exit

Aleem Dar has resigned from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee following the national team’s early exit from the ICC T20 World Cup at the Super Four stage.

The decision comes after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the tournament. According to sources, Aleem Dar stepped down amid concerns over the authority exercised by head coach Mike Hesson in team selection matters and the lack of resistance from other senior members.

Sources said that fellow selector Misbah-ul-Haq remained silent during internal discussions, while Aaqib Javed supported Hesson’s decisions.

Dar is said to have expressed frustration that selectors identify the best 20 players in the country, but the captain and head coach then select what he considers the wrong 15-member squad and later an incorrect playing XI.

As a result, selectors are left facing public criticism without having final control over team decisions.

During the ICC T20 World Cup, Dar reportedly raised objections to the inclusion of former captain Babar Azam and all-rounder Shadab Khan in the squad, citing their lack of performance. He also questioned the appointment of Salman Ali Agha as captain, stating that in his view, Agha did not merit a place in the squad as captain.

According to sources, Aaqib Javed did not oppose the head coach’s decisions, and Hesson openly exercised authority over selection matters.

Dar also proposed that experienced wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan be included in the playing XI at number six instead of Usman Khan. He argued that if Babar Azam and Shadab Khan could remain in the squad despite poor performances, then Rizwan deserved another opportunity as well.

Sources close to Dar said he believes cricket has brought him significant respect and honor, and he does not wish to continue in a role where he feels like a “puppet.” He considers it better to resign than to remain without meaningful authority.
