CDA Plans Three Mega Road Projects in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to launch three major road projects in Islamabad, including the rehabilitation of the Islamabad Expressway Service Road (East), the construction of an underpass at Kashmir Chowk, and the development of 11th Avenue.

According to officials, the CDA will receive bids from consultants for the service road and Kashmir Chowk projects today, while bids for the 11th Avenue consultancy will be collected on February 9.

The selected consultants will prepare the design and PC-I documents before the authority invites financial bids for the projects.

A CDA official said consultants are expected to complete their work within six to eight weeks. After that, the authority will call financial bids and may start the tendering process within two months.

The Service Road (East), which runs about 9 to 9.5 kilometers from Faizabad to the Gulberg Greens stop along the Islamabad Expressway, will undergo complete rehabilitation.

The road currently has numerous potholes, causing difficulties for commuters travelling between Faizabad and Koral.

Meanwhile, the CDA also plans to construct an underpass at Kashmir Chowk, also known as Dhokri Chowk, near Islamabad Club. The 11th Avenue project, a key road dividing sectors G-11 and G-12, will also be developed.

These projects were discussed during a meeting at CDA headquarters, chaired by Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa.

Senior officials reviewed the planning and progress of several infrastructure development projects in the federal capital.

The chairman directed officials to ensure the timely completion of all projects and warned that delays would not be tolerated. He also ordered mandatory Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for all development projects.

Officials also reviewed plans to widen Atatürk Avenue and discussed landscaping, installation of decorative lights, digital boards, and construction of a cycle track along the avenue.

The meeting further reviewed the extension of Margalla Avenue from N-5 to M-1 within the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The project will include the construction of one loop and two underpasses, and the tendering process is nearing completion.

CDA officials said these projects aim to improve road infrastructure and provide better facilities for residents of the federal capital.
