Karachi Traffic Police has issued a traffic management plan ahead of the Eid shopping rush, deploying additional personnel and imposing restrictions on rickshaws, taxis, and commercial vehicles on major roads and around busy markets.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah said section officers and traffic staff have been deployed in different districts from today. Personnel will perform duties daily from 7 pm until late at night near shopping centers and markets to manage increased traffic.
Traffic police have also deployed additional personnel on major roads across the city. Under the plan, rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed from Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittehad Signal. Commercial vehicles will use alternate routes from Allah Wali Chowrangi via Noorani Signal, Medi Care, and Shahrah-e-Millat Road.
Rickshaws and taxis will also not be allowed from Fawara Chowk to GPO and from Singer Chowk to Zaibunnisa Street. Rickshaw, taxi, and commercial vehicle drivers will use alternate routes from Fawara Chowk through M.R. Kiyani Chowk, Sarwar Shaheed Road, and Coast Guard Chowrangi to reach Regal Chowk or Tibet Centre.
Restrictions will also apply from Tibet Chowk to Eidgah Chowk up to Jama Cloth Market. Rickshaw, taxi, and commercial vehicle drivers will use alternate routes via Urdu Bazaar to Court Road Chowk or Fresco Chowk.
Rickshaws and taxis will also not be allowed on Main Rashid Minhas Road. Drivers of rickshaws, taxis, and commercial vehicles from the Sohrab Goth area near Sajan Kanta will use Sarfaraz Ghouri Road.
Traffic coming from Drigh Road will move towards NIPA through Millennium Bridge. Rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed to pass beneath the bridge.
If congestion occurs near Hyderi Market, commercial traffic from North Karachi will be diverted from Five Star Chowrangi towards Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan and Landi Kotal Chowrangi. Vehicles coming from Board Office will use KDA Chowrangi, Ziauddin Chowrangi, and Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan to reach North Karachi.
Motorists coming from M.A. Jinnah Road will use the route through Singer Chowk, Preedy Street, and Saddar Dawakhana.
Traffic coming from the KPT Underpass will move towards Clifton Bridge via Bath Island. In case of congestion, vehicles will use alternate routes through Teen Talwar, Racecourse, or Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road.
Traffic police said illegal rickshaw and taxi stands will not be allowed near supermarkets across the city. DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah urged citizens to cooperate with the traffic plan to ensure smooth movement during the Eid shopping period.
