Turkish Investors Show Interest in Buying Pakistan’s Power Distribution Companies

Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari held an online meeting with Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar to discuss cooperation in the energy sector, particularly the privatization of Pakistan’s power distribution companies (DISCOs).

During the meeting, Leghari briefed his Turkish counterpart on ongoing reforms in Pakistan’s power sector institutions and highlighted emerging investment opportunities.

He said Pakistan is keen to attract experienced global investors to participate in the privatization of DISCOs, emphasizing that Turkish companies with extensive expertise could play a key role in the process.

The minister also thanked Turkish institutions and experts for their cooperation in supporting Pakistan’s privatization efforts.

Bayraktar said Turkish investors are closely observing developments related to the privatization of Pakistan’s power sector and expressed hope that they would participate meaningfully in the process. He also reaffirmed Türkiye’s willingness to extend full cooperation to Pakistan in advancing power sector reforms.

Both sides also discussed the possibility of creating a forum that would bring Pakistani representatives and Turkish investors together to explore investment opportunities in the sector.
