A team of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) destroyed 16,000 liters of expired cold drinks and juices of a branded company during a raid in Rawalpindi, as part of an ongoing crackdown against the sale of substandard and unhygienic food items.
According to officials, the PFA team acted on credible information and raided a godown in the Ratta Amral area where large quantities of expired beverages were stored.
During the operation, authorities discovered that the original expiry dates on the bottles were being erased using a buffer machine in an attempt to sell the products again in the market.
A police team arrested the suspects involved in tampering with the expiry dates and registered a case against them.
Officials noted that the demand for cold drinks and juices typically rises during the holy month of Ramadan, making strict monitoring necessary to protect consumers from unsafe food and beverages.
