Govt Eyes Temporary Shutdown of Six Fertilizer Plants Due to LNG Shortage

Pakistan may temporarily shut down up to six fertilizer plants as part of contingency planning amid disruptions in LNG supplies caused by regional tensions.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Thursday informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that fertilizer availability in the country is currently higher than last year, allowing the government to consider closing some plants without affecting supply.

The move is being evaluated as part of the latest energy management measures after LNG imports from Qatar were delayed.

Officials said the government is trying to manage energy consumption carefully to ensure essential sectors continue to receive gas supplies.
