Punjab Govt Plans to Increase Traffic Fines

Authorities have decided to increase fines for traffic violations on the Lahore Ring Road as part of new measures to improve road safety and traffic management.

According to sources, the penalty for over-speeding may rise from the current Rs. 500 under a new proposal. Officials have already sent a summary to Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, for approval.

Authorities have also approved the establishment of a modern command and control center to monitor traffic on the ring road.

The facility will operate under the Lahore Ring Road Authority and will use advanced AI-powered cameras to detect over-speeding and other traffic violations.

Officials said the center will monitor more than 150,000 vehicles daily, allowing authorities to take stricter action against violators and improve traffic discipline.

The project will cost Rs. 871 million and authorities expect to complete it within four months. The system aims to strengthen traffic monitoring, improve security on the ring road, and ensure stricter enforcement of traffic laws for commuters.
