Major Crackdown Announced Against Motorcyclists in Karachi

Karachi traffic authorities have revealed widespread violations among motorcycle riders during a review of the city’s electronic challan system. DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said traffic police conducted a survey in which e-challans were issued to 100 motorcycles to assess how effectively the system was functioning.

According to him, the results showed that all riders included in the survey were involved in attempts to bypass the system in some way. He said more than 70 percent of the motorcycles did not have number plates installed.

Around 20 percent of riders had deliberately concealed their number plates through different methods. Pir Muhammad Shah added that even among motorcycles with number plates, many had incorrect registered addresses or plates that could not be read properly.

He said such practices were undermining the effectiveness of the electronic enforcement system. Following the findings, traffic police have decided to launch a large-scale crackdown against motorcycle riders after Eid on the instructions of the Inspector General (IG) Sindh.

During the operation, strict action will be taken against motorcycles without number plates, vehicles with tampered or concealed plates and riders violating traffic regulations. Authorities said motorcycles found in violation may also be impounded during the enforcement drive.
