IHC Orders Relief for Students Over M-Tag Installation

The Islamabad High Court on Monday instructed the capital administration to extend relief to students and avoid taking strict action against them over the mandatory m-tag requirement for motorcycles.

Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfaraz Dogar issued the directions while hearing a petition challenging the requirement for motorcycles entering Islamabad to carry m-tags.

The chief justice observed that students should be given concessions in the implementation of the policy and should not face unnecessary trouble. He remarked that students had traditionally been given relief in such matters and the same approach should be adopted in this case.

When asked about the reason behind introducing the m-tag system, the state counsel told the court that the decision was taken due to security concerns following a courthouse blast involving a motorcycle. He said the incident resulted in 12 deaths and injuries to 36 people, after which authorities introduced the m-tag policy to strengthen monitoring at entry points to the capital.

The chief justice acknowledged the security rationale but directed that the policy be implemented in a way that does not cause undue hardship to students. The court also directed the administration to submit its response and adjourned the hearing until April 6.

  • I have noted that our judicial system is always hindering in working of government that’s the reason no one cares about law in Pakistan. Just go to court and get stay. This step is being taken due to security, why should court intervene and give relief. They just killed the implementation. LOLs
