CDA Employees Continue Protests Over Selective Rs. 800,000 Grants

Thousands of employees of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) continued protests for a second day after the authority approved an ex gratia grant of nearly Rs. 800,000 for a select group of 12 employees, while Eid allowances and other benefits for the wider workforce were suspended under austerity measures.

According to official documents, the CDA chairman approved the payment on a summary moved by the administration wing.

A notification issued by the Human Resource Development Directorate stated that employees working under Member Administration Talat Gondal would receive an amount equal to two months’ basic salary for performing additional duties.

The total sanctioned amount stands at Rs. 791,500, with payments to be made in line with Rules 99 and 100 of the CDA procedure book.

Authorities also directed that no duplicate payments be made during the fiscal year 2025–26 and clarified that employees facing disciplinary action or suspension would not be eligible.

The decision has triggered strong reactions within the organization, with employees from multiple departments terming the move discriminatory. Protesters have demanded restoration of Eid allowances and equal treatment, arguing that selective financial benefits amid broader austerity measures have created unrest across the workforce
