Samsung is working on a handful of new innovative devices, one of which is going to be the Galaxy Z Slide if it reaches commercial release.
This prototype sliding-screen smartphone is tentatively scheduled for launch in late 2027 or early 2028, depending on development progress. There are no further details as of yet.
In addition to the Z Slide, Samsung is also working on a successor for the Galaxy Z TriFold, expected to launch around mid-2027. The upcoming model is expected to feature a thinner and lighter design compared to the original device.
The new version is said to be only slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold7 when folded, which measures 8.9mm. This would represent a notable reduction from the original TriFold’s 12.9mm folded thickness.
The news comes after Samsung discontinued the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first double-folding smartphone, in South Korea after a short three-month market run. Despite the early discontinuation, the company is continuing the development of devices based on similar form factors.
The Galaxy Z TriFold was Samsung’s first attempt at a double-folding smartphone, offering a more complex folding mechanism compared to the standard Fold series. However, the device was only available for a limited time before being discontinued in its home market.
Samsung’s continued work on both a TriFold successor and a sliding device suggests the company is still exploring alternative foldable and flexible display designs beyond its existing Fold and Flip series.
