YouTube’s New ‘Reimagine’ AI Tool Makes Creating Shorts Easier Than Ever

YouTube is expanding its Remix feature for Shorts with a new tool called “Reimagine,” designed to let users transform scenes using AI-generated video.

The company announced the update on March 18, confirming that the feature will begin rolling out soon.

How Reimagine Works

Reimagine allows users to select a single frame from a Short and modify it using AI. The tool is powered by Google’s Veo video generation model.

To use the feature, users can open the Remix menu while watching a Short and choose the “Reimagine” option. After selecting a frame, they can decide how they want the scene to be altered.

Gemini provides suggested prompts based on the selected scene, but users can also enter custom instructions.

Custom Media and AI Generation

Users can upload their own images to be included in the generated clip. For example, a user can insert their own photo into a scene, such as appearing to skydive or drive a race car.

The system generates an eight-second video based on the input. Users can provide up to two reference images to guide the result.

Once completed, the reimagined Short will include a link to the original video from which the scene was taken.

The Reimagine tool builds on YouTube’s existing AI features for Shorts. Previous updates include Shorts Templates, which allow users to incorporate photos into videos, and the Photo to Video feature, which converts static images into animated clips.

YouTube has indicated that it plans to continue expanding AI tools for creators, while emphasizing that user-created content will remain a priority over low-quality automated outputs.

Availability

YouTube has not provided a specific release timeline, but said the Reimagine feature will be available soon as part of its ongoing updates to Shorts.
