The federal government’s austerity drive is progressing, but questions are being raised over its full implementation amid reports of alleged noncompliance by officers.
Official sources told ProPakistani that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has shared details of parked government vehicles, fuel cards, and related savings with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) as part of an ongoing audit process aimed at curbing misuse of public resources.
The Prime Minister had directed a comprehensive audit to ensure transparency and reduce unnecessary expenditure. However, multiple departments have allegedly been slow to fully comply with instructions regarding vehicle usage, parking protocols, and fuel conservation measures, sources said.
Concerns have also been raised over FBR’s disclosure, as officials have not shared complete data regarding confiscated non-customs-paid (NCP) vehicles. Sources said this has raised questions on whether measures are being applied uniformly across all institutions.
Meanwhile, some NCP vehicles may still be in use by senior officials, while in certain cases, government vehicles allocated for official duties are allegedly being used for personal purposes. These claims have further intensified concerns regarding enforcement mechanisms within the austerity campaign, sources added.
