The Punjab government has indicated that summer vacations this year are likely to extend up to two months, while winter holidays are expected to be scheduled in January as part of the revised academic calendar.
The new academic year has officially begun in government-run schools throughout the province, with authorities outlining key measures aimed at supporting students and easing institutional costs.
Under the updated plan, officials are also moving forward with the distribution of a large number of free textbooks. Nearly 30 million books are expected to be provided to students during the current academic year to ensure uninterrupted access to learning materials.
Students in early grades, particularly from grade one to three, will receive textbooks completely free of cost. For grade four and five students, a majority of textbooks will also be provided free, while middle school students from grades six to nine will be supplied with a portion of their books at no cost. Meanwhile, students in grade ten will continue to receive full sets of free textbooks.
To further bridge any gaps, authorities have planned to support remaining students through a book bank system, ensuring availability of required course material for all.
In addition to student-focused initiatives, the provincial government is also considering reducing commercial electricity tariffs for government schools. The move is intended to lower operational expenses and provide financial relief to educational institutions across Punjab.
