Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Amir Khattak on Friday visited the Kutchery Chowk remodeling project along with officials of the Frontier Works Organization to review ongoing construction work.
Officials from relevant departments, engineers, and contractors briefed the commissioner on the progress, stating that work is continuing at an accelerated pace in double shifts. According to the briefing, the overall progress of the project has reached 76 percent.
Officials said utility ducts are 83 percent complete, pedestrian bridges 50 percent, tube wells 96 percent, and retaining walls 98 percent complete. The project, which began in November last year with an initial completion timeline of 18 months, is now being expedited in view of public convenience, with a revised completion target set for May.
The commissioner directed all concerned departments to ensure timely completion of the project and instructed the Parks and Horticulture Authority to complete work while maintaining quality standards. He also directed the highway department to immediately begin work on the elevated crossing between Jinnah Park and Kutchery (District Courts) premises to facilitate smooth public movement.
While appreciating the performance of the highway department, he emphasized the need for proper signage and effective street lighting to ensure safety and convenience for citizens. He stressed that the project must be completed within the deadline without compromising on construction quality.
