Around 700,000 litres of hoarded petroleum products were recovered during a joint raid at a compound near a filling station in Chak Peerana, near Kharian, on Sunday.
The operation was carried out by a team comprising the Federal Investigation Agency, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA), and the district administration.
According to a senior FIA official, the raid was conducted at Al Ghani Petroleum after authorities received credible information regarding the illegal hoarding of fuel.
During the inspection, officials found large quantities of petrol and diesel stored in unauthorized tankers and illegal underground containers at an unlicensed site adjacent to the filling station. The management failed to produce any valid permits for storing petroleum products beyond the permissible limits.
Authorities recovered approximately 118,000 litres of petrol and 570,000 litres of diesel, while four containers were also seized as part of the case. Officials said the illegal storage and unsafe handling of petroleum products constituted a violation of relevant laws, adding that further legal action is underway against those involved.
Sources said such enforcement actions are being intensified on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, following a sharp increase in fuel consumption and sales recorded in March compared to the same period last year.
