The left-handed batter had briefly considered ending his T20I journey after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which was held in India and Sri Lanka, but has now reaffirmed his commitment to the format.

Fakhar has remained an important player for Pakistan in T20 Internationals. The 35-year-old has featured in 120 matches and scored 2,494 runs at a strike rate of 132.51, including 14 half-centuries.

He has also been a major figure for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, where he is representing the franchise for the 11th straight season.

So far in the PSL, Fakhar has played 99 matches and scored 3,018 runs at a strike rate of 141.82, including 24 fifties and two centuries.

His statement on retirement comes at a time when he is also facing disciplinary action in PSL 11.

Fakhar was recently charged with a Level 3 offence under Article 2.14 of the code of conduct for allegedly violating Article 41.3 of the playing conditions during Lahore Qalandars’ match against Karachi Kings on March 29. The article relates to actions that may alter the condition of the ball.

Following a disciplinary hearing conducted by match referee Roshan Mahnama, Fakhar was handed a two-match ban after a review of the available evidence and a personal hearing.

The batter denied the allegations and requested a full disciplinary hearing under the PSL Code of Conduct.

However, the PSL Technical Committee rejected his request to overturn the punishment. The committee, comprising Professor Javed Malik, Dr. Mumraiz Naqshband, and Syed Ali Naqi, upheld the two-match suspension after reviewing the record and hearing submissions from the concerned parties.
