The Islamabad administration has declared April 9 and 10, 2026 as local holidays across the Islamabad Capital Territory, according to an official notification issued by the Office of the District Magistrate.
The holidays will apply within the revenue limits of the federal capital, while essential services will remain operational.
Departments exempted from the closure include MCI, CDA, ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO, SNGPL, and hospitals.
Although the notification does not mention a reason, the decision appears to be linked to heightened security and administrative arrangements ahead of expected high-level diplomatic activity in the capital.
The development comes as Pakistan is expected to host talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad later this week following a reported two-week ceasefire between the two sides.
The pause in hostilities was said to be tied to negotiations over Iran’s wider proposal, including issues related to sanctions, regional military activity, and the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also publicly welcomed the ceasefire and invited both sides to Islamabad for talks, placing Pakistan in a potentially important facilitation role at a sensitive moment in the region.
