Former Pakistan Super League (PSL) champions Islamabad United have confirmed that pace bowler Mir Hamza Sajjad has been cleared by doctors and has rejoined the squad at the team hotel.
In an official statement, the franchise expressed gratitude for the swift response of medical personnel, as well as the support shown by fans, other franchises, and the wider cricketing community, reiterating its commitment to the player’s well-being.
The update comes after a concerning incident during a net session at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre, where Hamza was struck on the back of the head by Mark Chapman.
The 29-year-old briefly lost consciousness and was immediately attended to by the team’s medical staff before being transported to the hospital.
He regained consciousness in the ambulance and was responsive upon arrival, where he was able to communicate with the medical team. He subsequently underwent CT scans and comprehensive medical evaluations and was kept under overnight observation as a precautionary measure.
After being medically cleared and deemed fit for discharge, he has since rejoined the squad and will remain with the team, with medical staff continuing to monitor and support him closely.
A right-arm pacer from Gujrat, Hamza has played six matches in his T20 career, taking eight wickets. He was picked by Islamabad United in the inaugural PSL players’ auction for Rs. 7 million but has yet to make his debut.
Islamabad United are set to face defending champions Lahore Qalandars in their fifth PSL 11 match at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday.
