Islamabad Serena Hotel has asked all guests to check out immediately after the property was requisitioned by the government ahead of what appears to be a high-level diplomatic event in the federal capital.
According to a notice dated April 8, 2026, the hotel informed guests that the Government of Pakistan had taken over the property from Wednesday evening until Sunday evening for an “important event”.
Guests were told to check out by 5pm the same day under government instructions, while the hotel said its Front Office and Sales team would assist them in arranging alternate accommodation in the city.
The notice was signed by Christoph Hoeflich, General Manager of Islamabad Serena Hotel.
The move has fueled speculation that the hotel may be used as a venue for the expected high-level talks between US and Iranian officials in Islamabad later this week.
The development comes amid a flurry of extraordinary steps in the capital following reports of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Pakistan is expected to host talks between the two sides as part of efforts to move the pause in fighting towards a broader diplomatic understanding.
The reported ceasefire followed growing regional tensions tied to military escalation and the Strait of Hormuz, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly welcomed the development and invited both sides to Islamabad for talks.
The hotel requisitioning also comes shortly after the Islamabad administration announced local holidays on April 9 and 10, while schools and colleges in the capital were effectively set for a four-day closure due to the extended break.
