The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has warned that penalties may be introduced for citizens who delay obtaining or renewing their identity documents if current trends do not improve.
In an official advisory, NADRA said it is legally empowered to impose additional fees or penalties for late renewal, adding that such measures could be implemented in the next fiscal year after June if delays continue.
The authority highlighted that millions of identity documents across categories remain expired and unrenewed, raising concerns over compliance with legal requirements.
NADRA said failure to renew identity cards on time can disrupt access to essential services, including banking, mobile connectivity and verification-based transactions, as well as government and welfare programmes.
The advisory also noted that a large number of SIMs remain linked to expired or invalid identity records, urging users to ensure their documents are updated to avoid possible service disruptions. Citizens have been advised to renew expired documents and ensure timely issuance of identity cards for individuals who have reached the age of 18.
NADRA said services are available through registration centres, the Pak-ID mobile application and e-Sahulat franchises, while warning that stricter measures may be introduced if compliance does not improve.
