Pakistan is set to host one of tennis’s most iconic figures, Björn Borg, from May 3 to May 10, bringing significant international attention to upcoming events organized by the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF).
PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi confirmed the development and expressed strong enthusiasm. Speaking to The News, he said, “With immense pleasure, I share that Björn Borg, a legend who dominated world tennis in the late 1970s and early 1980s, will be visiting Pakistan.”
He further said that this is a historic first for Pakistan, and Borg is not just a champion; he is among those rare players who helped globalize and popularize tennis.
Borg is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in tennis history. His career includes 11 Grand Slam titles, including six French Open titles and five Wimbledon championships. Known for his calm demeanor, strong baseline play, and ability to dominate on both grass and clay courts, he became a global icon during his peak years.
According to Aisam, the visit fulfills a commitment made last year to bring top international tennis figures to Pakistan. “We had promised to invite top names to inspire our players and uplift the game locally. Borg stands out even among legends,” he said.
The visit will take place during a busy international tennis schedule hosted by the PTF. This includes back-to-back ITF Futures events and ITF Junior tournaments in the J-30 and J-60 categories. These competitions aim to give Pakistani players valuable exposure by competing against international talent.
Borg’s connection with Pakistan has already begun to develop. His son visited the country last year to participate in an ATP Challenger event and praised the hospitality and organization, which encouraged this upcoming visit.
Recognizing Borg’s contributions to global tennis and the importance of his visit, the PTF has also approached the government to award him a civil honor.
“Borg is an icon of the sport, and his visit is of great value to Pakistan tennis. We have requested the government to honor him with a civil award, a gesture he truly deserves,” Aisam said.
Borg’s visit is being seen as more than a ceremonial appearance. It is viewed as an opportunity to inspire a new generation of players and strengthen Pakistan’s position in international tennis.

Yeah like everyone remembers borg from like 1980s. Most of the people here don’t even know who borg is.
Aisambrought him bcz he wants to be paid. That’s how it is for old legends. They do such things for a payday.
Try this with Nadal or Federer and you’ll be laughed at by everyone.
