Pakistan Customs has arrested two Preventive Officers after 400 kilograms of seized silver bullion was allegedly swapped with lead during official transportation from Quetta to Lahore.
According to officials, the officers had been officially deputed to transport 688 kilograms of confiscated silver packed in 36 sealed boxes via Pakistan International Airlines from Quetta to the Pakistan Mint in Lahore.
The alleged fraud came to light when the boxes were unpacked at Pakistan Mint and authorities discovered that 400 kilograms of silver had been replaced with fake lead bricks of identical weight and packaging, suggesting a carefully planned substitution.
Officials said CCTV footage from Safe City Quetta confirmed that the vehicle transporting the original consignment was deliberately swapped during transit, strengthening suspicions of internal involvement.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered and both officers are currently in custody. Legal proceedings are underway.
Pakistan Customs said it maintains a zero tolerance policy against misconduct within its ranks and that strict action will be taken against all those found involved in the case.
