Karachi BRT Red Line Project Faces Fresh Delays

Work on the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line has slowed sharply, with several stretches showing little to no activity, raising concerns over project management and oversight.

The project is divided into two sections: one running from Airport signal to Mosamiyat and the other from Mosamiyat to Numaish. The Mosamiyat to Numaish section, which is larger in scope, continues to face recurring issues and delays.

This segment had already witnessed a prolonged suspension last year due to payment disputes between the contractor and authorities, which led to court intervention before work resumed. Despite claims that the issue was resolved, progress has again weakened.

Recent observations indicate minimal activity along the route. Several locations remain inactive, with only a few workers and idle machinery visible and no active construction underway.

Work between Hasan Square and Nipa remains halted due to the K-IV water pipeline installation, adding further delays to the project. Even in areas where equipment is present, operations appear suspended.

The repeated slowdowns have raised questions about administrative efficiency. Meanwhile, residents continue to face traffic congestion, disrupted routes, and uncertainty over when the project will be completed.
