Petrol Car Sales Decrease by 9% and Electric Car Sales Increase by 61% in Just 1 Month in Pakistan

Pakistan’s automobile market moved in two very different directions in March 2026, as sales of conventional vehicles fell sharply while electric vehicles posted a strong monthly jump.

Latest industry data shows that sales of cars, LCVs, vans, and jeeps dropped 9 percent month-on-month to 15,531 units in March, down from 17,121 units in February.

Despite the monthly decline, the segment still recorded a 40 percent increase compared to March last year, when sales stood at 11,113 units.

On a cumulative basis, auto sales in the category reached 144,029 units in the first nine months of FY26, reflecting a 43 percent year-on-year increase from 100,736 units in the same period a year earlier.

The monthly fall was mainly driven by weakness in passenger car sales, which declined 12 percent to 11,702 units in March. Within that segment, 1000cc vehicles saw the steepest drop, falling 36 percent to 294 units.

Sales of cars below 1000cc also slipped 18 percent to 4,961 units, while the 1300cc and above category posted a 6 percent decline to 6,447 units.

In contrast, electric vehicle sales rose 61 percent over the previous month, climbing to 53 units from 33 in February. While the absolute number remains small, the jump stands out against the broader slowdown in the conventional auto market.

LCVs, vans, and jeeps also showed resilience, inching up 1 percent month-on-month to 3,776 units, suggesting that the decline was concentrated more heavily in the passenger car segment.
