Punjab to Install CCTV Cameras to Monitor Streets

The Punjab Government has decided to strengthen security across the province by expanding surveillance to the grassroots level through a comprehensive CCTV camera network.

According to sources, authorities have prepared a plan to install Safe City cameras in all union councils, enabling monitoring of streets and neighborhoods.

The project will cover around 7,000 union councils across Punjab and is estimated to cost Rs5 billion.

Officials said working papers for the project have been completed, and a summary has been sent for approval to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The chief secretary has also forwarded the proposal for final approval.

Under the initiative, an effective monitoring system will be established at the union council level to ensure surveillance of every locality.

The move aims to expand the Safe City system to lower administrative tiers and enhance crime prevention through modern technology.

Authorities believe the project will significantly improve law enforcement capabilities and help ensure public safety across the province.
