SHC Sets Deadline to Fill Over 3,000 Disability Quota Vacancies

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed deputy commissioners in Karachi to fill vacant posts reserved for persons with disabilities within two months.

A petition regarding non-implementation of the disability quota across the city’s districts came up for hearing before the court. The petitioner’s counsel informed the bench that more than 3,000 positions in government departments remain unfilled.

The petition stated that qualified persons with disabilities are being denied employment opportunities in the public sector. It also highlighted that the law mandates a five percent quota for persons with disabilities in government jobs.

After hearing arguments, the court ordered deputy commissioners to ensure that all vacancies under the disability quota are filled within the given timeframe. A two-member constitutional bench later disposed of the petitions after issuing the directives.
