Govt Employees Protest in Punjab Over Salaries and Pension Cuts

Hundreds of workers from the All Government Employees Grand Alliance staged a protest on Thursday outside the Civil Secretariat, demanding restoration of financial benefits and an increase in salaries.

The protesters called for the reinstatement of leave encashment, pension, and gratuity, along with a 30% disparity allowance and a 50% salary hike.

Demonstrators carried placards and banners while chanting slogans against rising inflation and what they described as anti-employee policies.

Speaking at the rally, AGEGA leaders, including Khalid Sanghera, Prof Faiza Rana, and Rana Liaqat, accused the Punjab Government of economic exploitation over the past three years.

They alleged that key financial benefits had been withdrawn and that implementation of announced relief measures had been repeatedly delayed.

The speakers also criticized the outsourcing of hospitals and educational institutions, arguing that it had negatively impacted service delivery and led to job losses.

They raised concerns over the abolition of the regularization act, saying it had created uncertainty among contract employees.

Referring to the recent increase in petroleum prices, protesters said inflation had significantly worsened, placing heavy financial strain on salaried workers.

They noted that although a 30% disparity allowance was announced in the budget, it had yet to be implemented.

The demonstrators urged the government to immediately notify the recommendations of a committee formed by the chief secretary.

They warned that the alliance would announce its next course of action at a meeting scheduled for April 20 if their demands remain unmet.
