Practical work has officially started to restore train services across multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, raising hopes for improved transportation and regional connectivity.
According to official sources, Pakistan Railways has initiated progress on the project following approval from the federal government and has formally notified the provincial authorities.
In the first phase, authorities will begin work on a 62-kilometre railway section connecting Peshawar, Nowshera, and Jahangira, a key component of the overall restoration plan.
The second phase will focus on a 65-kilometre stretch linking Nowshera, Mardan, and Dargai.
Additional upgrades include restoring a 27-kilometre railway line between Mardan and Charsadda, along with an 18-kilometre section from Peshawar to Jamrud.
A 60-kilometre Kohat-Jand railway section will also be upgraded in a later phase.
Officials said the process of appointing technical teams for representation in the Pakistan Railways working group is currently underway.
Legal formalities are being completed, while anti-encroachment operations have already started to clear railway tracks for rehabilitation work.
The restoration project is expected to provide passengers with affordable, safe, and faster travel options. Authorities also anticipate increased commercial activity in the region and a boost in revenue for Pakistan Railways.
