Plan Discussed to Improve Traffic Flow at Kalma Chowk

A proposal to improve traffic flow at Kalma Chowk and Main Boulevard in Lahore was discussed during a meeting of the Central Business District (CBD) Lahore, where officials reviewed options to ease congestion at the busy intersection, where Metro Bus operations affect traffic flow

The meeting, chaired by CBD Chief Executive Officer Imran Amin, focused on addressing increasing traffic pressure at Kalma Chowk.

Officials said the Metro Bus currently operates on an at-grade track at the intersection, which disrupts the flow of regular traffic. During the meeting, a proposal was presented to construct a separate elevated bridge for the Metro Bus near Arfa Tower so that public transport and general traffic can be segregated.

The meeting was informed that funding for the project will be arranged through the Transport Department and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority.

Officials also considered a plan to improve entry and exit routes to the CBD area.  According to CBD officials, the project includes two flyovers along with a separate elevated bridge for the Metro Bus.

They said the initial cost has been estimated at around Rs. 4 billion, while the final cost will be determined after detailed planning. Officials said improving traffic flow at Kalma Chowk and Main Boulevard has become necessary due to increasing traffic pressure in the area.
