Work on the new terminal at Allama Iqbal International Airport has entered its final phase, with authorities expecting to open the upgraded facility for passengers in Lahore later this year.
Once completed, the new terminal will double the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity from 5 million to 10 million.
Project Director Tauqeer Iqbal said the Rs26 billion project is scheduled to be completed this year. He added that the terminal building and most of its core infrastructure have already been nearly finished.
The new facility will significantly expand passenger handling operations, with 144 additional arrival and departure counters being added. The commercial area is also being enlarged to accommodate both local and international brands.
To improve baggage handling, the number of conveyor belts is being increased to five so that passengers can receive their luggage more quickly. Aircraft parking capacity is also being expanded, allowing an additional four to five planes to be parked at the airport.
Authorities have also increased the number of airline check-in and boarding pass counters, while self-service boarding card machines have been installed to help passengers complete the process within minutes.
Officials say the upgraded terminal is being designed to handle heavy flight activity more efficiently, even during fog or rain, without causing long queues for passengers.
The Pakistan Airports Authority says the new terminal will offer modern facilities in line with international standards and improve the overall travel experience for passengers paying increasingly high airfares.

The only one international airport available in KPK is Peshawar airport which is used both by PAF and Civil Aviation. This airport is very old and is only renovated few years ago. Reaching there is very difficult and have to wait in long lines to enter the airport premises.
Government of KPK / Federal / Pakistan is requested to kindly provide a new international airport at Peshawar which meets all international standards and the biggest plan can land there. Must have three runways to meet emergencies and face loads. It should be state of the art aiport so world can see it and people prefer to land at Peshawar. It must be constructed at such a location where approach is easy from all sides of the province.
bro then you need to visit karachi airport lol… its actually from the time of Jinnah :D …
OK will get on to it straightaway
Yes so are roads, infrastructure, medical facilities, transportation, education. But who cares, PTI zindabad.
Faisalabad new airport must be completed quickly so as an alternate a nearby city is available.
Provincial capital deserves state of the art international airport.
Allama Iqbal International airport at Lahore already has an excellent airport facility. Why is so much of money being spent upon such high international facilities to impress people abroad instead of caring for the poor people of Pakistan was suffering the high prices of daily food items. It is about time that the government considered the poor man of Pakistan who cannot afford even three meals a day leave alone one meal to feed his children and family.
What will happen to the car parking which is already a mess? Never seen such poor planning at any airport internationally also. Long queues are common.
Just five conveyor belts? Or did you mean it will be increased BY five MORE?
