The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced plans to introduce an electric cart service at major airports to improve passenger movement within terminal premises.
In the first phase, the service will be launched at airports in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Multan, according to PAA. A tender has already been issued for the procurement of the electric cart service.
The facility will allow passengers to travel between parking areas and concourse halls, as well as return from the terminal building to parking areas.
PAA Director Commercial Rabia Salmi said passengers will be able to book electric carts through a mobile app. She added that the initiative is expected to make travel easier, particularly for elderly passengers.
The announcement follows a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on April 22, focused on improving airport operations and public convenience.
During the meeting, officials approved the installation of advanced screening machinery to strengthen the checking system.
They also agreed to establish joint counters and introduce a single-point checking mechanism aimed at reducing delays. Progress on installing e-gates was also reviewed.
Naqvi said that a unified checking system using a single scanner would save significant time, adding that better coordination among institutions is necessary to reduce crowding and long queues at airports.
