The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has shifted its driving license system to a fully paperless model as part of efforts to improve service delivery and streamline operations.
Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk announced the transition during a review meeting with officials from service centers and directed all branches to implement the digital system.
Under the new system, physical documents have been removed from the licensing process, which now covers all stages from medical assessment to license issuance.
Officials said applicants will no longer need to carry multiple documents, as the original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) will be sufficient for obtaining a driving license. To ensure accessibility, dedicated service counters have been set up for women and senior citizens at licensing centers.
The CTO also directed staff to maintain professional conduct and ensure respectful interaction with applicants. Officials said work is underway to digitize the license fee payment system, which is expected to improve transparency and make the process more convenient.

Besides driving license, the other biggest obstacle is, the payment of annual vehicle registration fee. It is a riddle, why annual registration fee is not billed like electricity, gas and municipal bills, through banks?

Friend, Annual fee is not registration fee, it’s token tax. And for Islamabad vehicles, annual token tax can be paid online.

Commendable performance done by all personals related to Islamabad traffic police, wel done shabash….one suggestion I have, regarding auto generation of sms intimation which is one month before expiry date of driving license. This sounds fine, but we will see practically how the Police office handle this and make it easy for a common man
Where are the licensing centres located in Islamabad? A list should be available to the users along with their timings etc.
