The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has stopped the transfer of 22 already allotted plots and blocked the processing of around 60 more in Sector D-13 after a suspected land scam surfaced in Islamabad.
The matter came under discussion during a high-level meeting on CDA affairs chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was briefed on the alleged irregularities by senior CDA officials.
Following the briefing, the minister directed the Federal Investigation Agency to complete its probe into the case on a priority basis.
According to details shared in the meeting, the case revolves around a legitimate land compensation claim linked to around 80 kanals acquired by CDA.
A citizen was originally entitled to receive 22 plots against the acquired land. However, the case later became suspicious after the applicant allegedly changed both his own name and his father’s name in official records and used those altered details to secure the allotment.
The 22 plots were reportedly allotted in previous years after the applicant informed CDA that the names had been changed on the orders of a local court and reflected in NADRA records.
Officials accepted the identity documents without thoroughly checking supporting records such as educational documents or a police report, raising serious questions about the process.
Those plots were later sold in the open market. The new CDA management has now frozen any further action related to them. During a deeper review of the case, officials also found that similar proceedings involving around 60 more plots under alleged pseudonyms were being processed in the land directorate.
Authorities have since stopped all such cases. The suspected scam is said to be worth over Rs1 billion, given the high market value of one-kanal plots in Sector D-13.
Naqvi praised CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf and Member Estate Muhammad Zaman Wattoo for uncovering the suspected corruption and said no one involved would be given leniency.
